It’s time for some good old fashioned Q+A time, Wellness Site Shop style! So here we go!

1 | How are WSS templates different from the free Squarespace templates?

So you might be wondering why you should pay money for a website template when Squarespace offers literally hundreds of them for free...I get it. I would be asking the same question if I was in your shoes.

So Squarespace offers tons of templates on their site for you to pick from. They are beautiful, sleek and most of them are very well designed. They are a great starting point for anyone looking to design an eye-catching website.

Here’s the main problem though...without some decent web design and strategy knowledge (not to mention familiarity with the Squarespace interface), it’s going to be difficult to take that template and turn it into something unique to your business.

This is one of the biggest complaints about Squarespace...all Squarespace sites look the same.

And it’s partly true! A lot of Squarspace sites do look very similar. And that’s because Squarespace was initially designed as the website platform for DIYers. They give you great templates to start from, but most people don’t do much besides change some of the info and maybe add some of their own photos.

But this doesn’t mean all Squarespace sites HAVE to look the same. If you’re knowledgeable in website design and really know how to use the platform, you can design an amazing and totally unique website.

That’s where “premium” templates come into play (aka third-party sites that sell templates).

Wellness Site Shop templates are built “on top of” a basic Squarespace template. So think of it more like a design kit.

I teach you how to build out the design step-by-step using video tutorials, and I also teach you how to customize the template by changing the layout, colors, fonts, photos and graphics to fit your unique business.

The best part about the templates, though, is the knowledge you gain from having to build it out yourself. Throughout the entire process, you really learn about web design and strategy, and how to work the Squarespace platform.

This means you’ll never have to hire anyone to make any changes to your site 🙌🙌🙌You’ll know how to do it all yourself. Talk about a relief for your sanity AND your wallet!

So not only are you getting a professionally designed site specific to your industry, but you’re also getting all the knowledge you need to customize, update and maintain your site yourself.

If you use a free Squarespace template, they don’t offer any kind of support unless you go seek it out.

Now I will give this to Squarespace...their support team is 🔥🔥🔥. They have tons of amazing and in-depth help articles and their online chat and email support is so so good.

But the thing is you have to go search everything yourself and piece together your knowledge. And I know most of you don’t have time for that!

So if you want a unique design and all the knowledge you need right at your fingertips, a premium template is the way to go!

If you do choose to use one of the free Squarespace templates, make sure it’s one in the Brine template family! My go-to is always the Rally template. It’s the most customizable and is super easy to work with.

2 | How does the whole process work? What happens after I purchase?

Great question!

So after you checkout, you will immediately get an email with a link to your private template instruction page. That instruction page has everything you need to complete your website in a clear step-by-step format. All the video tutorials, resources, tips, and your design files are found on that page.

I’ve broken the whole process down into 3 main phases…

Phase 1: Prep

This is where we lay the ground work for your site build. We’ll do things like sign up for your Squarespace account, choose your base template, download your design files, and build out the demo site.

Phase 2: Design

The fun phase! Now you really get to make your site your own by writing your copy, gathering your images, editing your custom graphics, and replacing all of the demo content with your own stuff…so exciting!

Phase 3: Launch

This phase is super important because it’s where we make all the final tweaks to your site to make sure it’s ready to go out into the world. Think SEO, legal tips, and a final launch checklist. Then we upgrade your Squarespace plan and it’s launch time!! 🍾🍾🍾

After your site is launched, you have the opportunity to get a FREE website audit by yours truly if you complete the feedback form found on the instruction page. This is a great way to get an extra set of eyes on your website to ensure it’s primed and ready to start bringing you the clients!

3 | How much work is involved? How long until my new website is up and ready to go?

So I will be honest...premium Squarespace templates don’t work the same like other website platforms where you just click a button and the design installs on your site.

While that would be so much easier (for me and you!), there’s actually a very good reason why Squarespace doesn’t operate this way.

You see, Squarespace is a closed-source platform which basically means all the features and functionalities you can put on your site are coming from Squarespace HQ. The opposite would be something like Wordpress where anyone can design themes and plugins you can install on your site.

While that does have some benefits, a closed-source platform like Squarespace gives you the peace of mind that everything on your site was developed by the pros and designed specifically by the Squarespace developers.

But what does this have anything to do with you? Well this means you do have to do some work of building out the template design yourself, which does take some time.

But don’t worry! I walk you through every single mouse click through video tutorials where you can see my screen….so it’s basically like you’re leaning over my shoulder watching me design the website.

So yes, it does take some time, but the flip side is you really get to learn Squarespace since you have to actually do everything yourself.

And as far as how long the process takes...this is hard to answer just because everyone’s situation and website is so different. But I would say if you could dedicate two hours a day, it would take you 10-14 days from start to finish, depending on how complicated your site is.

If you just work on it non-stop until it’s done, you could knock it out in 2-3 days.

The time is going to depend on things like…

  • Do you have a good grasp on what your business is and who it serves?

  • Do you know your brand voice?

  • Do you already know the general vibe and aesthetic you’re going for?

  • Do you already have photos picked out?

  • Will you need to add any additional pages?

If you said no to any of those, not to worry! I cover all of that in the tutorials and guides. But if you have all of that already figured out, you’ll be on the lower end of the timing estimates because all you have to worry about is building out the demo site and plugging in your own content.

4 | If I use one of your templates, won’t my site look just like everyone else who purchases the same template?

The short answer is no! The long answer is possibly depending on how much customization you do. Throughout the process, I give you all the knowledge and tools necessary to change the layout of any page, change the colors, font, and logo, and customize the Canva graphics to perfectly match what you need for your specific business.

So you really have the opportunity to design a totally unique and awesome site!

And also, if you consider the likelihood that any one of your direct competitors has also purchased the same template, it’s pretty unlikely that this would be an issue.

5 | Do I need to buy anything extra beyond the template?

In addition to the template purchase, you will need access to a Canva Pro account to edit and export your graphics. Good news is they offer a 30-day free trial so that should be plenty of time to edit your graphics and then cancel your plan before you get charged. But if you do go beyond 30 days, it’s only $13/month and you can cancel anytime.

Also, if you haven’t had a personal brand photoshoot, you probably will need to buy a few good stock photos. All of the photos in the demo design are from Wellness Stock Shop--my fav resource for wellness stock photos.

The photos you get in your design kit will be watermarked to protect the copyright, so if you want to use them on your own site, you will need to purchase them yourself.

But they’re extremely well-priced, especially her membership options.

6 | Do I need to be a designer or know how to use fancy design programs to use your template?

Nope! I walk you through everything you need to know and Canva is the design tool we use to edit your graphics. It’s super user-friendly and so much fun to play around with!

7 | Can I change the colors, fonts and images to match my own brand?

Absolutely! You get all the knowledge you need to make the site your own.

8 | Is any coding involved?

Nope! This is a no-code zone.
